Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter text, scramble and seed number.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Each word is split into letters, then only the middle letters (or all letters) are shuffled with Fisher-Yates driven by a seeded pseudo-random generator. Words of 3 letters or fewer stay as they are when the ends are kept.
Example
Inputs: Scramble = Keep first and last letter, Seed number = 1. Result: Scrambled text: Acinrocdg to rreescah, rreaeds can siltl utarndsend smalcrebd wrods; Words changed: 7.
Limits and caveats
- A word can come out unchanged if the shuffle lands on its original order, especially short words or words with repeated letters.
- Arabic letters change shape with position, so scrambled Arabic words can look oddly joined.
Questions about this tool
Why can we still read scrambled words?
When the first and last letters stay, fluent readers recognise many words by their overall shape. It is a known effect but does not work for every word.
Does punctuation stay in place?
Yes. Only letters and digits are mixed; spaces, commas and full stops do not move.
How do I get a different scramble?
Change the seed number. The same number always repeats the same result.
