Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter encoded text.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Each character A to Z and 2 to 7 gives a value from 0 to 31 (5 bits). The bits are regrouped into 8-bit bytes, which are read as UTF-8 text.

Example

Result: Decoded text: foobar; Bytes: 6.

MZXW6YTBOI======
foobar

Limits and caveats

  • base32hex and Crockford alphabets are not supported and would decode differently.
  • Bytes that are not UTF-8 text are shown in hex only.

Questions about this tool

Does letter case matter?

No. Lowercase is converted to uppercase before decoding and spaces are ignored.

What if the = padding is missing?

Unpadded input is fine as long as its length is possible in Base32, meaning the remainder after dividing by 8 is not 1, 3 or 6.

Why does it say the bytes are not text?

The encoded data may be a key or a binary file, so the hex values are shown instead of garbled text.
