I typed a whole English paragraph with Caps Lock on and the letters came out reversed; how do I fix it without retyping?

Use «iNVERT cASE»: it turns every capital into a small letter and every small letter into a capital, so «hELLO, oUR sTORE» becomes «Hello, Our Store». Because Caps Lock flipped every letter the same way, inverting brings back exactly what you meant, names you capitalized included. Punctuation, digits and Arabic words are left alone.

Why text comes out like this

With Caps Lock on, letters come out as capitals. When you hold Shift to capitalize the start of a sentence or a city name, Shift works in reverse and gives a small letter. The result is text where every letter is the opposite of what you wanted: wE SHIP TO rIYADH instead of We ship to Riyadh.

That is exactly what makes the fix easy. The mistake is regular: every letter was flipped once, so flipping it once more puts it back.

A full example

You meant to type this for your store description: We ship to Riyadh and Jeddah in 2 days. Order via WhatsApp. Caps Lock was on, so it came out as: wE SHIP TO rIYADH AND jEDDAH IN 2 DAYS. oRDER VIA wHATSaPP.

After «iNVERT cASE» the text was back to what you intended, letter for letter: We ship to Riyadh and Jeddah in 2 days. Order via WhatsApp. The tool reports 45 characters changed, which is every Latin letter in the sentence, since each one had been flipped. The 2 and the full stops were untouched.

Why not sentence case?

Sentence case is the first thing most people reach for, but it lowers everything and then raises the first letter of each sentence. The same text in sentence case became: We ship to riyadh and jeddah in 2 days. Order via whatsapp. The cities and the app lost their capitals and you would have to fix them one by one. Inverting keeps them, because you typed them with Shift, which left them in a reversed state that can be recovered.

One exception: if you typed part of the paragraph with Caps Lock off and switched it on halfway, inverting will flip the good part too. In that case paste only the reversed part.

Steps

  1. Copy the reversed paragraph and paste it into the Text case converter.
  2. Choose «iNVERT cASE» under «Target case».
  3. Check the output in the «Result» box, then press «Copy result».
  4. Switch Caps Lock off before you carry on typing.

What about mixed Arabic text?

Arabic words in the paragraph are safe. Inverting tHANK YOU شكرًا FOR YOUR ORDER gave Thank you شكرًا for your order: the Arabic word kept its tanwin, and the tool noted 4 uncased letters passed through unchanged. Arabic has no capital and small letters, so there is nothing to flip.

Common questions

What if I press invert twice?

You are back to the reversed text. Inverting twice cancels itself out.

Does invert work for Greek?

It works character by character, so it cannot apply the Greek final-sigma rule. That limit is stated on the tool page.
