How do I combine chat screenshots with a customer into one readable PDF to send to a marketplace's support team?

Choose Page fits the image and set the margin to 0. Each page then takes the shape of its screenshot, so the text stays as large as it was on the phone instead of shrinking into the middle of an A4 page with wide white strips down the sides. Put the shots in order from oldest to newest before building.

Why screenshots look tiny on A4

A screenshot from a recent phone can be 1170 × 2532 px, more than twice as tall as it is wide. An A4 page is far less elongated. With Fit inside and a 10 mm margin the height of the page is what limits the image, so it is drawn 362.83 × 785.2 pt on a page 595.28 pt wide. More than a third of the page width is left empty and the text shrinks in proportion. The support agent ends up zooming on every page.

The right setting for conversations

In Images to PDF choose Page fits the image with a 0 margin. At the suggested 150 DPI a 1170 × 2532 screenshot becomes a 561.6 × 1215.36 pt page, about 198 × 429 mm. The width is close to A4 but the length follows the screenshot, so the text opens at a readable size with no zooming. The pages will not match a sheet of paper, but a support file is read on screen, not printed.

Steps

  1. Take screenshots covering the whole conversation, with a small overlap between each one and the next so no message falls between them.
  2. For cleaner pages, crop off the status bar and keyboard with the Image cropper, keeping the dates and times shown in the chat.
  3. Add the screenshots to the converter and put them in time order with the move buttons. Screenshot file names usually include the time, which helps.
  4. Choose Page fits the image, set the margin to 0, and leave the DPI at 150.
  5. Build the file and check the preview: is every message visible, is the order right? Then download it and attach it to the support ticket.

What makes the file convincing to support

  • The first screenshot shows the customer's name or order number at the top of the chat, so the agent knows who the other party is.
  • Time order with no gaps, because one missing stretch can make the agent ask for the whole conversation again.
  • No editing of the content. Cropping edges is fine; hiding messages from the middle can weaken your case.
  • A clear file name carrying the order number, such as chat order 4582.

File size and privacy

Screenshots are usually PNG, which is embedded losslessly, so the lettering stays crisp. Twenty of them can make a file of several megabytes, so if the support form limits attachment size, convert the screenshots to high quality JPEG before building. And remember they may show the customer's phone number or address, so send the file only through the marketplace's official support channel.

Common questions

Can the agent search the chat text inside the PDF?

No, the pages are images and the tool does not recognise text. A clear order is what makes it easy to read.

Should I use A4 if support will print it?

If printing is genuinely needed, choose A4 and Fit inside, accepting smaller text.

What if the screenshots have different lengths?

No problem; each page takes the length of its screenshot and on screen reading stays continuous.
