I need to convert confidential client designs. Does the converter upload the files anywhere?
No. Each image is read and rewritten inside your browser using Canvas and is never sent to a server, so client designs stay on your device. On top of that, the output carries no EXIF data such as where a photo was taken or which device took it. What remains your responsibility is what you do with the files after downloading.
Why this matters for designers and freelancers
An unreleased brand identity, packaging for a product that has not launched, campaign images showing sale dates nobody has announced yet. Many contracts say outright that such files must not be shared with any third party. Uploading them to an unknown converter site, even one that promises deletion within the hour, means a copy passed through a server you know nothing about.
What actually happens during conversion
- You pick files from your device, and the browser reads the first bytes of each to learn its real format.
- The browser decodes the image and draws it onto a Canvas in the page's memory.
- The canvas is saved in the format you chose, and the output's signature is checked.
- The download button saves the file from browser memory straight to your Downloads folder; the ZIP is assembled in the browser too.
There is no upload step anywhere in that chain. The page itself loads from the internet like any website, but the image files you choose do not leave your machine.
Check it yourself
You do not have to take our word for it. Open the Image format converter, let the page finish loading, then disconnect from the internet and add, convert and download an image. Everything still works, because all the work is local. If you know your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab while converting: no request carries the image.
What is removed from the output
Because the image is redrawn, EXIF data does not travel into the new file: no location, no camera or phone model, no color profile. That helps if product shots were taken at the client's warehouse. But note the tool does not touch what is visible in the picture: if the design shows the client's name or phone number, that stays, and the file name stays too, with only the extension changed. If a name gives something away, such as client-launch-draft, rename it before sending.
What stays your job
- Downloaded files remain in your Downloads folder. On a shared computer, delete or move them when you are done.
- The Reset button clears the list from the page, and closing the tab wipes everything from memory.
- However you send the files to the client, by email or cloud storage, that channel has its own privacy rules.
Common questions
Does the tool keep a copy of my images for later?
No. Images exist only in the page's memory while it is open and are not stored anywhere.
Does the same apply to the site's other image tools?
The image tools on the site work inside the browser in the same way, but read each tool's page for its details.
