How to delete pages from a PDF

A blank page in the middle of a report, or a page with details the recipient should not see. Removing it sounds simple, but there is one detail many people miss.

How to do it

  1. Open Delete PDF pages and choose your file.
  2. Page thumbnails appear. Tap the pages you want to remove.
  3. Check the remaining page count shown to you.
  4. Download the new file.

The detail many people miss

Some programs “delete” a page by removing it from the page list while its content stays inside the file. Someone who knows how to open the file with a specialist tool may still find it. That matters a great deal when the reason for deleting is that the page holds sensitive information.

This tool works differently. It builds a brand new file from the remaining pages only. The content of deleted pages is never copied, so nothing of it is left inside the result.

Worked example

A 10 page file, and you delete pages 1 and 2.

Result: a new 8 page file that starts with what was page 3.

Your original file stays on your device, unchanged.

What to know

  • You cannot delete every page. At least one must remain, otherwise the tool refuses to export rather than giving you an empty file that will not open.
  • Page numbers printed inside the page content do not change after deletion. If you need fresh numbering, add it with PDF page numbering.
  • Bookmarks, interactive form fields and document metadata are not carried into the new file.
  • Password-protected files are refused, and a digital signature is not valid after editing.
  • Tested limit: a file up to 100 MB and 500 pages.

When to use a different tool

If you want to keep only a few pages and drop most of the file, it is quicker to extract what you need with Split PDF. And if the problem is the order of the pages rather than which ones are there, use Reorder PDF pages.

Common questions

Is my original file replaced?

No. The tool creates a new file and never modifies your original.

Can I select pages before all thumbnails load?

Yes. Rendering thumbnails for a large file takes time, and you can start selecting before it finishes.

Is the file uploaded?

No, everything happens inside your browser.
