How to extract pages from a PDF

You need the one page with the table from an 80 page report, or you want to send a single chapter of a booklet. Instead of sending the whole file, extract the pages you need into a new one.

Three ways, depending on what you need

  • Extract to one PDF: type the pages you want and they all come out in one file.
  • One file per range: every group of pages you type becomes its own file, downloaded together as a ZIP.
  • Every page separately: the whole file split page by page.

How to type page numbers

Separate pages with commas and write a range with a hyphen between two numbers. Arabic-Indic digits and the Arabic comma work too, so the tool reads «١-٣، ٥» the same way as “1-3, 5”.

Worked example

A 10 page file, and you type: 2, 5, 7

In “extract to one PDF” mode: a new 3 page file with pages 2, 5 and 7 in that order.

In “one file per range” mode with 1-2, 9-10: two files, the first with pages 1 and 2, the second with 9 and 10.

The tool refuses an invalid number rather than guessing what you meant: page 0, a page past the end of the file, or a reversed range like 5-2. You get a clear message and your input stays as you typed it, so you can fix it.

How to do it

  1. Open the Split PDF tool and choose your file.
  2. Pick one of the three split modes.
  3. Type the page numbers or ranges.
  4. Download the new file, or a ZIP if several files were produced.

Useful details

  • When extracting to one PDF, pages are written in ascending order and duplicates are dropped, so 5, 1-3 gives you pages 1, 2, 3 and 5. To change the order, use Reorder PDF pages.
  • Your original file is never changed. The tool only creates new files.
  • Tested limit: one file up to 100 MB and 500 pages.
  • Password-protected files are refused, and a digital signature in the original is not valid in the new files.

Want the opposite, removing a few pages and keeping the rest? Then Delete PDF pages is easier, because you pick what to remove instead of typing everything you keep.

Common questions

Are my files uploaded?

No, splitting happens inside your browser on your device.

Why are the output files bigger than the original in total?

Resources shared between pages, such as fonts, are copied into every output file, so the total can grow.

Can I combine the extracted pages with another file?

Yes. Extract them first, then combine with the other file using Merge PDFs.
