How do I make a wholesale version and a retail version of my catalog from one master PDF?

Type each version as its own group. In “One PDF per range” mode, type 1-4 9-12, 1-8 and a single split gives you two files: an 8-page wholesale version and an 8-page retail version. Or run “Extract to one PDF” twice, once per version.

The idea: one master file, versions pulled from it

Say your catalog is 12 pages. Pages 1 to 4 hold the cover, the store introduction and the shipping policy, pages 5 to 8 hold retail prices, and pages 9 to 12 hold wholesale prices and minimum order quantities. A trade buyer needs the general pages plus the wholesale section. A retail customer needs the general pages plus retail prices, and neither should see the other's price list.

Rather than designing two catalogs and editing both every time a price moves, keep one master file and pull both versions out of it whenever you need them.

The fastest way: one split, both versions

  1. Open Split PDF and choose the master catalog.
  2. Choose “One PDF per range”.
  3. Type: 1-4 9-12, 1-8
  4. The space between 1-4 and 9-12 keeps them in the same file, and the comma starts the second file. The preview line will say the output is a ZIP with 2 PDF files and 16 pages in total.
  5. Press “Split and download” and open the ZIP.
Worked example

The file: catalog.pdf, 12 pages, with 1-4 9-12, 1-8 typed in “One PDF per range”.

File one: pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12, the 8-page wholesale version.

File two: pages 1 to 8, the 8-page retail version. Both arrive together in catalog-split.zip

The alternative: extract twice

If you would rather get each PDF directly without a ZIP, choose “Extract to one PDF” and type 1-4, 9-12 to get catalog-pages-1-4_9-12.pdf with 8 pages. Then type 1-8 and download again to get catalog-pages-1-8.pdf. In this mode commas and spaces make no difference, because everything you type goes into the same file.

What the split cannot do for you here

  • Pages inside each output are written in ascending order, so splitting cannot put page 12 before page 9. If you want a different sequence, reorder the output afterwards.
  • If a page mixes wholesale and retail products, the whole page is copied; the tool does not hide part of a page. Separate the content in your design file first.
  • To add a page from another file, such as a wholesale order form, extract the version and then combine it with that form in Merge PDFs.

Common questions

Do I have to redo this whenever prices change?

Yes. Export the updated master, then repeat the same input. Keep the text 1-4 9-12, 1-8 in a note so you can paste it each time.

Do the store links on the pages still work?

Pages are copied with their annotations, and web links are annotations. Tap one link in the output before you send it, just to be sure.
