Other converters list page 10 before page 2 in my folder; will these page images sort in the right order?
Yes. Each image carries the file name and then the page number padded with zeros to the width of the last page number, so a 120 page file gives catalog-p003.png rather than catalog-p3.png. That keeps images in page order in your file manager, in upload dialogs and in anything else that sorts by name.
Why page 10 lands before page 2
Many programs sort names character by character, the way a dictionary sorts words. Comparing p10 with p2, they look at the first character that differs, 1 against 2, and since 1 is smaller, p10 goes first. Some modern file managers are smarter, but upload dialogs on websites, archive tools and plenty of apps still sort this way. The result is a gallery that jumps from page 1 to page 10 and then back to 2.
How the tool names images
A name has three parts: the PDF's name without its extension, then p and the page number, then the format's extension. The number gets leading zeros until it is as long as the document's page count:
A 9 page file called catalog: page 3 becomes catalog-p3.png, since one digit is enough.
A 12 page file called catalog, as JPEG: page 10 becomes catalog-p10.jpg and page 2 becomes catalog-p02.jpg.
A 120 page file called catalog: page 3 becomes catalog-p003.png.
The ZIP that bundles them is called catalog-images.zip.
Note that JPEG downloads with the short jpg extension. More importantly, the padding comes from the page count of the whole file, not from the pages you selected. Convert only pages 1-9 of a 120 page file and the names still have three digits, so they line up with any batch you convert later.
When the order really matters
- An Instagram carousel or a product gallery on your store: some upload dialogs add images in name order.
- Sending catalog pages on WhatsApp: picking images from the gallery in the wrong order means the customer reads the pages scrambled.
- Putting the images back into a PDF later with Images to PDF: correct order saves you dragging them around one by one.
A tip about the file name before converting
Because the PDF's name becomes the start of every image name, shorten it before you convert. A file called New season catalog final v2 edited.pdf gives you long names that are hard to read in an upload dialog. Rename it to something short such as catalog-2026, then open it in PDF to images. Short Latin names also travel cleanly through platforms that handle Arabic characters in file names badly.
Common questions
Can I change the naming pattern?
No, the pattern is fixed. You can rename the images after downloading if you need a different one.
I converted a single page. Is it padded too?
Yes, because the padding follows the file's page count. Page 7 of a 40 page file becomes p07.
Does the order change inside the ZIP?
The images in the ZIP carry the same names, so they sort the same way once extracted.
