Are my prices and client details uploaded anywhere when I make a quote online?
No. The calculation and the PDF are both produced inside your browser on your own device, and names, prices and notes are not sent to any server. The only things loaded from the site are the PDF-building library and the embedded font. The other side of this is that nothing is saved, so download the file before you close the page.
What happens when you press ‘Create PDF’
- Your browser reads what you typed into the form: your details, the client's, the lines, discount, tax and notes.
- It loads the PDF library and the font file from the site. These are fixed files that carry none of your data.
- The file is assembled in the browser's memory, and a preview of page 1 appears with the page count.
- When you press ‘Download PDF’, the file is saved straight to the downloads folder on your device.
There is no upload step anywhere. You can prepare a quote with special pricing for an important client without worrying that those prices sit on someone else's server.
What the file itself carries
Privacy is not only about the website; it is also about the file you send. A few details worth knowing:
- The file properties include a title such as ‘Quotation Q-2026-0014’, and the author is the name you entered in your own details. Anyone who opens the document properties in a PDF reader will see that.
- The downloaded file name is built from the quote number, for example quotation-Q-2026-0014.pdf, so do not put anything in the number you would not want the client to see.
- Notes are printed exactly as written. Do not type an internal remark such as your margin there, thinking it is only for you.
The flip side: nothing is stored
Because the data never leaves your device, the tool has no copy of it. Reload or close the page before downloading and you start again from scratch. The data does stay in the form while the page is open, though, so on a shared computer, such as one in an office or a business centre, press ‘Reset’ after downloading, close the page, and delete the file from the downloads folder if the machine is not yours.
Simple habits that protect client data
- Keep a copy of every quote in a folder for that client; it is your only record.
- Send the file to the right email address or number; a wrong recipient exposes your prices more than any server would.
- When you turn the quote into an invoice with the Basic invoice generator, the same applies: it is built in the browser and not stored.
In short, the Quotation generator works like a calculator and printer on your own device, not like a cloud account. That suits anyone who does not want their prices kept elsewhere, and in return it asks you to keep your own files.
Common questions
Do I need to create an account?
No, the tool works without signing up or logging in.
Does it work offline?
You need a connection to load the page and, when creating a file, the PDF library and font. Your data is not sent over that connection.
Whose details are shown when I open the tool?
They are an example with made-up names. Replace them with your own, or press ‘Reset’ to start from an empty form.
