During Ramadan our working day is shorter; how do I make the calculator count overtime after 6 hours instead of 8?

Type 6 into 'Overtime after (hours/day)' and your multiplier into 'Overtime multiplier'. Every row above 6 hours then splits into regular and overtime minutes. The calculator does not know it is Ramadan and knows no rules of its own, so the number you type is what it applies, and it should come from your contract or company policy.

A worked Ramadan week

Say a shop assistant works 10:00 to 17:00 during Ramadan, five days, with no recorded break, at 30 SAR an hour, and the business treats anything after 6 hours a day as overtime at 1.5. Each day is 7:00 and the week is 35:00.

With a threshold of 6, the calculator shows 30:00 regular hours and 5:00 overtime, one extra hour a day. Regular pay is 900.00 SAR, overtime pay 225.00 SAR, and total pay 1,125.00 SAR.

Forget to change it and leave the usual 8, and no day goes over: overtime shows as zero and the total is 1,050.00 SAR. That is 75 SAR in a single week, all from one field.

Steps

  1. Open the Timesheet calculator and enter the Ramadan days, one row per day, with break minutes if there are any.
  2. Enter the hourly rate and pick the currency.
  3. In 'Overtime after (hours/day)', type the figure your business uses for Ramadan, such as 6. Fractions work too: six and a half hours is 6.5.
  4. Enter the overtime multiplier from your contract, then check the 'Overtime' column next to each row.

A month that is part Ramadan, part not

There is one threshold for the whole sheet. You cannot tell it 'these days at 6 and those at 8'. If your pay month mixes Ramadan days with ordinary ones, give each period its own sheet: enter the Ramadan days with their threshold and download the summary, then press 'Reset', enter the remaining days with 8 and download a second summary. Add the two totals on the payslip.

That is clearer for whoever checks the pay, too, because each PDF lists the daily regular-hours threshold it used among its totals, so nobody has to guess which rule applied to which days.

What the calculator does not know

  • It does not know Ramadan's dates and never changes the threshold by itself. You decide when the new figure starts and stops.
  • It does not know the statutory working hours in your country or any overtime rate. Take those from your employment contract or the official labour authority, not from this article.
  • The threshold is daily and applied to each row separately. There is no weekly threshold.
  • There is no special premium for night or suhoor hours. If you pay an allowance like that, work it out separately.

Common questions

Can I set a threshold of 5.5 hours?

Yes. The field accepts fractions above zero and up to 24 hours, and 5.5 means five and a half hours.

How do I know the right Ramadan threshold?

From your employment contract, company rules or the labour authority in your country. The calculator only applies the number you enter.

Does the download show which threshold was used?

Yes. The summary lists the daily regular-hours threshold, the regular and overtime hours, and the multiplier.
