My Salla or Zid store has fields for the product's search engine title and description. What should I write there, and how can I preview it before saving?
In the title field, write the product's plain name with the one detail that sets it apart, and your store name at the end. In the description, write one or two sentences that answer the searcher's question: why open this page? Try both in the preview with the product's real URL, then copy the same text into the platform's fields, not the generated tags. The preview is an illustration, and the search engine may still choose other text.
Why draft outside the platform first
The SEO fields in a store dashboard are small and usually do not show how the text will look in a search result, or where it might be cut. In the Search snippet preview you see title, description and URL together in a desktop and a mobile preview, with character counts and approximate widths, and can edit freely before touching the product page.
Example: the oud oil page
We entered these values in the preview:
- Title: «دهن العود الكمبودي الفاخر | متجر العود», 38 characters.
- Description: «تسوّق دهن العود الكمبودي الأصلي بتركيزات مختلفة، مع شحن سريع داخل السعودية والإمارات.», 85 characters.
- URL: the product page address as the browser shows it.
Because the title starts with an Arabic letter, the preview reads right to left, and the URL appears in the path line like this:
example.com › عطور › دهن-العود
No warnings appeared: there is a description, it differs from the title, and the URL has no parameters. For the English version of the page, Cambodian Oud Oil 12 ml | Oud Store came to 35 characters, with a 97-character description. If the width check shows a description close to the mobile guidance, move the less important details to the end.
What to write in each field
- Title: the product type first, then what sets it apart (origin, size or model), then a separator and the store name.
- Description: what the title cannot say, such as available sizes, delivery areas and the returns period if it is a strength.
- Do not repeat the product name in the description in the same words, and do not stuff in a keyword list.
- Write in the page's language. If the store has Arabic and English versions with a field for each, write text for each.
From the preview to the dashboard
- Once you like how it looks, copy the title text from the title field and paste it into the product's SEO title field.
- Do the same with the description.
- Do not paste the tool's generated tags into these fields: the platform writes the tags itself, and the field expects plain text. The ready tags are for people who edit their page code by hand.
- Save, then open the product page and view its source to check the new title is there.
What you do not control
Even after saving, the search engine may show a different title or take a description from the page text that fits the search. The result also only updates after the engine visits the page again. The preview does not imitate any particular engine, and nothing in it affects ranking. If you want to improve the product URL itself, your platform may let you edit its last part, which you can draft with the URL slug generator; bear in mind that changing the URL of a published page breaks old links unless they redirect.
Common questions
What happens if I leave both fields empty?
Some platforms fill in the product name and description automatically. Check what yours uses and compare it with what you draft in the preview.
Does the tool know the field limits on Salla or Zid?
No. It does not connect to any platform. If a field accepts only so many characters, the platform will tell you.
