What is the best WhatsApp link to put in my Instagram bio?

A short one: either no message, or a one-line message that says the customer came from Instagram, such as 'Hello, I found you on Instagram'. People reach your bio with all kinds of questions, so a long message or one about a single product does not suit it, while a line that mentions Instagram tells you where the chat started.

Three options and their lengths

We made all three in the WhatsApp link generator with an example number:

  • No message: just 26 characters, https://wa.me/966501234567.
  • The English message 'Hello, I found you on Instagram': a 75-character link.
  • The Arabic message «مرحبا، وصلت من إنستغرام»: a 161-character link.

The Arabic message has fewer characters than the English one, yet its link is more than twice as long, because every Arabic letter is encoded inside the link. That does no harm when the link hides behind a button or text, but it matters if the full link will show in your bio.

Which one to choose

  • If your audience is Arabic-speaking and sees the link as tappable text without reading it: the short Arabic message, which feels natural to them and tells you the source.
  • If you use the same link on several platforms: no message, or one link per platform with a message naming it.
  • If the link will be displayed in full: no message, so it stays short and readable and visitors can see your number clearly.

In a bio, avoid messages tied to one product or a limited-time offer. A bio stays up for months while the offer ends, and you get customers asking about a deal that is over.

Test it before you save the bio

  1. Once the link is made, press 'Open link' in the tool and make sure the chat opens with your shop's account.
  2. Copy the link and paste it into your bio or whichever link field Instagram offers your account.
  3. Open your profile from another phone, or ask a friend to tap the link, so you see the message the way a customer does.

That test matters because the tool checks the number's format only; it cannot know whether the number is on WhatsApp or whether you wrote it correctly after the country code.

Is the number visible to people?

Yes. The international number is written inside the link as it is, so anyone who taps or copies the link can see it. If you would rather not publish your personal number on a public profile, make the link with a number used for the business. And if you change numbers later, update the bio link, because the old link stays tied to the old number.

Common questions

Can I put a wa.me link in a comment or a story?

It is an ordinary link and works wherever the app accepts clickable links. Where Instagram allows links depends on your account and the app, not on the tool.

The customer deleted the message and wrote their own. Have I lost the source?

For that chat, yes. A pre-filled message helps, but it is not guaranteed tracking, because the customer can edit it before sending.
