How to use it
- Enter camelcase names (one per line or inside text).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Each camelCase name is split into words at every change from a lowercase letter or digit to a capital, and before the last capital of an acronym that is followed by a lowercase letter. The words are then lowercased and joined with dots (.). Symbols and spaces around the names are left as they are. Example: userFirstName becomes user.first.name.
Example
Result: dot.case result: user.first.name app.title.v2 order.total.amount; Names processed: 3.
userFirstName appTitleV2 orderTotalAmount
user.first.name app.title.v2 order.total.amount
Limits and caveats
- A name with no capital to mark the word break, such as username or an Arabic name, cannot be split.
- Every word break becomes a dot, and in JSON or YAML paths a dot can mean a new nesting level.
Questions about this tool
Where is dot.case used?
In some configuration files such as Java properties files, and in translation keys and event names in analytics tools.
Does a dot mean a new level?
In many tools yes, so user.first.name may be read as three nested levels in JSON or YAML; make sure that is what you want.
How are digits handled?
A digit stays with the letters before it, so appTitleV2 becomes app.title.v2.
