How to use it

  1. Enter camelcase names (one per line or inside text).
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Each camelCase name is split into words at every change from a lowercase letter or digit to a capital, and before the last capital of an acronym that is followed by a lowercase letter. Only the first word then starts with a capital, the rest are lowercase and separated by spaces; acronyms such as HTML keep their capitals. Symbols and spaces around the names are left as they are. Example: firstName becomes First name.

Example

Result: Sentence case result: First name Last login date Has HTML content; Names processed: 3.

firstName
lastLoginDate
hasHTMLContent
First name
Last login date
Has HTML content

Limits and caveats

  • A name with no capital to mark the word break, such as username or an Arabic name, cannot be split.
  • Proper nouns are not capitalised for you, so visitLondon becomes Visit london.

Questions about this tool

What is the difference between Sentence case and Title Case?

In Sentence case only the first word starts with a capital, as in Last login date, while Title Case capitalises every word: Last Login Date.

Why did HTML stay in capitals?

The tool keeps acronyms inside a name, so hasHTMLContent becomes Has HTML content.

Where is this useful?

For writing form labels and interface messages from field names, so emailAddress becomes Email address.
