How it is calculated
Digits multiply the units 十=10, 百=100 and 千=1000 within a group, each group is multiplied by 万=10^4 or 亿=10^8, and all are added. A final digit right after 百, 千 or 万 with no 零 takes the next lower place (一万五 = 15000).
Example
Inputs: Chinese numeral = 壹仟贰佰叁拾肆. Result: Number: 1,234.
壹仟贰佰叁拾肆
一千二百三十四
Limits and caveats
- 兆 is not accepted because its value differs by usage (a million or a trillion).
- Short forms like 一百五 read as 150, as in everyday speech; write 一百零五 if you mean 105.
