How it is calculated
The number is split into 4-digit groups (亿 = 10^8, 万 = 10^4, units). Each group uses 千, 百, 十, a single 零 stands for any run of inner zeros, and a leading 一十 becomes 十 (except in the financial form).
Example
Inputs: Number = 100,000,001, Style = Simplified (二千零二十六). Result: In Chinese numerals: 一亿零一.
Limits and caveats
- Two is always written 二, although everyday speech uses 两 before 千, 万 and 亿 (两千).
- Currency units 元, 角 and 分 are not added; write them yourself on a cheque.
Questions about this tool
Why are there financial Chinese numerals?
Plain characters like 一 and 二 are easy to alter with an extra stroke, so complex forms like 壹 and 贰 are used on cheques and contracts.
What do 万 and 亿 mean?
万 is 10,000 and 亿 is 100,000,000; Chinese groups digits in fours, not threes.
When is 零 written?
Whenever there are zeros inside the number, written once for any run of zeros, as in 一万零五十 for 10050.
