How it is calculated

Value = strokes × 1 + hobbles × 10 + rope coils × 100 + lotuses × 1000 + fingers × 10,000 + tadpoles × 100,000 + Heh signs × 1,000,000.

Example

Result: Number: 1,234; Number of signs: 10.

Limits and caveats

  • Only the seven basic number signs in Unicode are read, not images or hieratic script.
  • Signs are summed in any order, so mistakes in inscription order are not flagged.

Questions about this tool

How do I type the signs?

Copy them from the number to hieroglyphs tool or any Unicode source and paste them here.

What is the lotus sign worth?

It is worth 1000, and the finger is worth 10,000.

Can a sign repeat more than 9 times?

Not in normal writing, since 10 of a sign become the next sign up, but the tool sums them anyway.
