Questions about this tool

What is the Umm al-Qura calendar?

It is the official Hijri calendar of Saudi Arabia, with month starts calculated in advance from astronomical criteria for Makkah.

Why do some sites show a Hijri date one day off?

Some sites use the tabular calendar or a local sighting instead of Umm al-Qura, which is why the tabular date is shown here for comparison.

Does the Hijri day start at sunset?

Religiously the Hijri day starts at sunset, but the official calendar pairs each full Gregorian day with one Hijri date, and that is what this tool shows.

How do I convert a Gregorian date to Hijri?

Pick the Gregorian date in the tool and the matching Umm al-Qura Hijri date appears straight away. Example: Wednesday 18 February 2026 is 1 Ramadan 1447 AH. The conversion runs in your browser and sends nothing.
