Limits and caveats
- None of the formulas account for age, frame size or muscle mass.
- Heights under 152.4 cm are not supported, since the formulas start at 5 ft.
Questions about this tool
Which ideal weight formula is most accurate?
None is right for everyone. Devine is the most used in medicine; Robinson and Miller were later refinements.
Why do the formulas give different numbers?
Each was fitted to different data, and they usually differ by a few kilograms.
Is ideal weight the same as healthy weight?
Ideal weight is a single reference number; healthy weight is the wider range given by a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9.
