Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter current annual salary, contribution rate (employee plus employer), yearly salary growth, annual return, years to retirement and current pot balance.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Each year: balance = previous balance × (1 + return) + salary × contribution rate, then salary rises by the growth rate. Contributions are added at year end.
Example
Inputs: Current annual salary = 120,000, Contribution rate (employee plus employer) = 15 %, Yearly salary growth = 3 %, Annual return = 5 %, Years to retirement = 30 years. Result: Projected pot at retirement: 1,705,211.91; Total new contributions: 856,357.48; Investment growth: 848,854.43.
Limits and caveats
- It does not compute state social insurance pensions (such as GOSI), which use a salary and service formula rather than an invested pot.
- Return and salary growth are held constant and plan fees are not deducted.
Questions about this tool
Which contribution rate should I enter?
Add your share and your employer's, for example 5% from you and 5% from the company makes 10%.
Why does the contribution rise each year?
It is a share of salary, so a 3% pay rise lifts the contribution by the same 3%.
How do I turn the pot into monthly income?
Use the safe withdrawal calculator: at 4% each million gives about 40000 in the first year.
