How to use it

  1. Enter percentage and new rate (optional).
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Basis points = percent × 100. Change = (new rate − first rate) × 100, so 4.5% to 4.75% is a 25 bp change.

Example

Inputs: Percentage = 0.25 %. Result: Basis points: 25 bp; Decimal: 0.0025.

Limits and caveats

  • The change is in percentage points, not the relative change between the two rates.

Questions about this tool

How many basis points are in 1%?

1% equals 100 basis points.

How do I find the gap between two yields in basis points?

Subtract the first rate from the new one and multiply by 100: 3.2% to 3.65% is a 45 bp gap.

What does a negative change mean?

The new rate is lower: 5.5% to 5% is a cut of 50 basis points.
