SHA3-256 hash generator
Computes SHA3-256, built on the Keccak sponge construction, a design that is independent of the SHA-2 family.

Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter text or bytes and input type.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Bytes are absorbed into a 1600-bit state at a rate of 136 bytes per block with the 0x06 domain suffix, Keccak-f runs 24 rounds, and the first 256 bits are squeezed out.
Example
Inputs: Input type = Text (UTF-8). Result: SHA3-256 digest (hex): 3a985da74fe225b2045c172d6bd390bd855f086e3e9d525b46bfe24511431532; Input size: 3 bytes; Digest length: 256 bits.

Limits and caveats
- This is standard SHA3-256, not the Keccak-256 used by Ethereum; the two give different results for the same text.
- The digest covers the text exactly as typed: a trailing space or newline changes it completely, and line breaks count as LF.
Questions about this tool
Why does the result not match Ethereum hashes?
Ethereum uses the original Keccak-256 with the 0x01 suffix, while SHA3-256 uses the 0x06 suffix added by the standard, so the outputs differ.
Is SHA-3 newer than SHA-256?
Yes, it was published in 2015 with a completely different design, but it does not replace SHA-256, which is still secure.
When should I pick SHA3-256?
When a protocol or specification asks for it, or when you want an algorithm family independent of SHA-2.
