Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter change 1, change 2, change 3 (optional), change 4 (optional) and starting value.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Factor = (1 + c1 ÷ 100) × (1 + c2 ÷ 100) × and so on; net change = (factor - 1) × 100
Example
Inputs: Change 1 = 10 %, Change 2 = -10 %, Starting value = 100. Result: Net change: -1%; Final value: 99; Overall multiplier: 0.99.
Limits and caveats
- The order does not change the net result, but the values in between do depend on order.
- A change of -100% takes the value to zero whatever follows.
Questions about this tool
Why does +10% then -10% give -1%?
Because 1.1 × 0.9 = 0.99. The cut is taken from a larger value, so it removes more than the rise added.
Can I just add the percentages together?
No. Two 20% rises make 44%, not 40%, because the second rise applies to the already raised value.
How do I enter a decrease?
Use a minus sign, so a 25% cut is entered as -25.
