How it is calculated

Every character has a code point from 0 to 10FFFF in hex, written U+ with at least 4 digits: س = U+0633 = 1587.

Example

Inputs: Format = U+0633. Result: Code points: U+0048 U+0069; Characters: 2.

Hi
U+0048 U+0069

Limits and caveats

  • Combined characters such as some emoji or a letter with a diacritic show as several code points.

Questions about this tool

What does U+0633 mean?

U+ marks a Unicode code point and 0633 is its number in hex, the Arabic letter seen.

Why does one emoji give several numbers?

Some emoji are built from several code points that join on display, such as skin tones and flags.

Is a code point the same as UTF-8 bytes?

No. The code point is the character number and UTF-8 is how it is stored. س = U+0633 but its bytes are D8 B3.
