How it is calculated
The combining low line U+0332 is added after every character except line breaks, including spaces unless you choose to skip them.

Limits and caveats
- The line is a Unicode combining mark added after each character, so screen readers may announce it per letter and search may not match the text.
- The line may cross descenders such as g and y and some Arabic letters, and may show gaps between letters in some fonts.
Questions about this tool
Is it different from underlining in Word?
Yes. Word draws the line as formatting, while here the line is a combining character that travels with the text wherever you paste it.
Why does the line look broken?
Each character carries its own piece of line, and some fonts do not join the pieces perfectly.
Can I remove the underline later?
Yes, delete the U+0332 characters with find and replace in any Unicode-aware editor.
