Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter unix timestamp (seconds) and time zone (optional).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Date = 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC + seconds. Whole days = floor(seconds / 86400); the remainder gives the hours, minutes and seconds.
Example
Inputs: Unix timestamp (seconds) = 1,700,000,000, Time zone (optional) = Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). Result: Date and time (UTC): 2023-11-14 22:13:20; Weekday: Tuesday.
Limits and caveats
- Unix time ignores leap seconds: every day has exactly 86400 seconds.
- A 13-digit value is usually milliseconds, so use the milliseconds converter for it.
- Zone offsets and daylight saving come from your browser time-zone database and can differ for very old dates.
Questions about this tool
What is a Unix timestamp?
It is the number of seconds elapsed since midnight UTC on 1 January 1970. Systems use it because one number means the same instant in every time zone.
What happens in 2038?
Systems that store the value as a signed 32-bit integer run out at 2147483647, which is 2038-01-19 03:14:07 UTC. Modern 64-bit systems are not affected.
Does it accept negative numbers?
Yes. A negative value is a moment before 1970, for example -1 is 1969-12-31 23:59:59 UTC.
