How to use it
- Enter total wall width, wall height, roll width, roll length, pattern repeat (0 for none) and trim allowance.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Drop length = height + trim, rounded up to a multiple of the repeat if there is one. Drops per roll = roll length ÷ drop (down). Drops = wall width ÷ roll width (up). Rolls = drops ÷ drops per roll (up).
Example
Inputs: Total wall width = 14 m, Wall height = 2.5 m, Roll width = 53 cm, Roll length = 10.05 m, Pattern repeat (0 for none) = 0 cm. Result: Rolls needed: 9; Drops (strips): 27; Drops per roll: 3.
Limits and caveats
- Subtract the width of large doors and windows yourself; leave small ones as a safety margin.
- Half drop patterns can sometimes need one extra drop.
Questions about this tool
What is a standard wallpaper roll size?
The common European roll is 53 cm × 10.05 m; wide 106 cm rolls come in various lengths.
How do I measure the total wall width?
Add the lengths of the walls you will cover. A full 4 × 3 m room has a 14 m perimeter.
Why does a pattern repeat need more rolls?
Each drop must start at the same point of the pattern to match its neighbour, so part of the roll is lost at every cut.
