Arabic presentation forms to base letters

Some PDFs and older programs store each letter shape (initial, medial, final) as its own code, which breaks search and copy. This restores ordinary letters.

Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter text.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Every code in the presentation-form ranges (U+FB50 to U+FDFF and U+FE70 to U+FEFC) is decomposed with Unicode NFKC into its base letters, e.g. U+FEE3 → م and U+FEFB → لا.

Example

Result: Result: مرحبا بكم; Forms converted: 8.

ﻣﺮﺣﺒﺎ ﺑﻜﻢ
مرحبا بكم

Limits and caveats

  • If the text is also in reversed order, use the reversed Arabic text fixer.
  • Standalone vowel-mark forms are attached to the letter before them.

Questions about this tool

How do I know text has presentation forms?

It looks fine but searching it fails, or letters change when pasted elsewhere. The Arabic character inspector also reveals them.

Are symbols like ﷺ converted?

Yes, ﷺ becomes «صلى الله عليه وسلم» and ﷲ becomes «الله».

Is ordinary text changed?

No, base letters and any other text stay as they are.
