How it is calculated

Indemnity = wage × (half a month for each of the first 3 years + one month for each later year). Monthly contribution = wage × 4.2% in the first 3 years and 8.4% after.

Example

Inputs: Monthly wage = 1,000 BHD, Years of service = 4 years, Extra months = 6 months, Extra days = 0 days. Result: Leaving indemnity: 3,000.00 BHD; Current monthly contribution rate: 8.4%; Monthly employer contribution: 84.00 BHD.

Limits and caveats

  • Since March 2024 the employer pays a monthly contribution to the SIO, which pays the indemnity.
  • It does not cover Bahraini workers, who are under social insurance.
