Can I type the pages to delete with spaces instead of commas?

Yes. The pages field treats a space as a separator, so 2 5 7 means pages 2, 5 and 7, and 1-3 5 means pages 1, 2, 3 and 5. Spaces around a dash or a comma are tidied automatically too. Even so, check the summary line and the red frames before every download.

What the field accepts

In Delete PDF pages the field is relaxed about separators and strict about numbers. Everything below works on a 10-page file:

  • Spaces only: 2 5 7 means pages 2, 5 and 7.
  • Ordinary commas: 2, 5, 7 gives the same result.
  • The Arabic comma: 2،5،7 gives the same result, handy if your keyboard is set to Arabic.
  • A range mixed with a space: 1-3 5 means 1, 2, 3 and 5.
  • Spaces around symbols: 1 - 3 , 5 is read as 1-3,5.
  • Arabic-Indic digits: ٢ ٥ ٧ means 2, 5 and 7, and ٣-٥ ٨ means 3, 4, 5 and 8.

What gets refused

When the field cannot read what you typed, or it points at a page that does not exist, a note under it says the page range is not valid, and the thumbnails do not change until you fix it. Examples on a 10-page file:

  • A number above the page count: 2 5 12 is refused as a whole because page 12 does not exist; pages 2 and 5 are not selected on their own.
  • A reversed range: 5-3 is refused; write 3-5.
  • A range with two dashes: 1-3-5 is refused; write 1-5 or 1-3 5 depending on what you mean.
  • Double commas or a full stop: 2,,5 and 2.5 are refused.

Refusing the whole entry is deliberate: a tool that skipped the bad part and quietly ran the rest could delete pages you never meant to. The note makes you look again.

Why check the summary even when your entry is accepted

Because the field does what you typed, not what you meant. A common slip is typing 257 when you meant 2 5 7 and forgot the spaces. On a 10-page file that number is refused as too large, but on a 300-page file it is accepted and selects page 257 alone. The summary shows that straight away.

Worked example

A 300-page file. You type 2 5 7 and the summary reads: Pages to delete: 2, 5, 7 (3 of 300). Pages that will remain: 297.

Type 257 with no spaces and the field selects page 257 only, leaving 299, which is not what you wanted.

A 10-page file: 1-3 5 shows as 1-3, 5 in the summary and leaves 6 pages.

A quick habit before every download

  1. Read the page numbers in the summary as the tool writes them, in one standard form such as 1-3, 5, whatever way you typed them.
  2. Compare the remaining page count with what you expect.
  3. Scroll the thumbnails with red frames and confirm they are the right pages.

Common questions

Does the order of the numbers matter?

No. 7 2 5 and 2 5 7 select the same pages, and the summary sorts them in ascending order.

I typed the same number twice. Is that a problem?

No. Repeats are ignored and the page is deleted once.
