How do I limit revisions and state what is excluded in a logo design quote?
Make the core design package one line and extra revision rounds a second line priced per round, then use ‘Notes and terms’ to spell out exactly what the price covers (for example two rounds of revisions and source files) and what it does not. The client then knows a third round has a price before they ask for it.
The problem this solves
‘One last small tweak’ is the phrase that turns a one-week job into a month. When a quote does not state how many revisions are included, the client assumes they are unlimited, and asking to be paid for more feels like a surprise. The fix is not to refuse revisions but to price them upfront, in the document the client agreed to.
A suggested structure
- Line one: ‘Logo design: 3 initial concepts and 2 revision rounds on the chosen concept’, quantity 1.
- Line two: ‘Additional revision round’, with the quantity the client expects to need, or remove it if they have not asked.
- Notes: what the price includes, what it excludes, and how further rounds are charged.
Logo design × 1 = 3,500.00.
Additional revision rounds: 2 × 400 = 800.00.
Subtotal 4,300.00, tax at the designer's entered rate (15%) 645.00, total 4,945.00 SAR.
If the client wants three extra rounds rather than two, change the quantity to 3: the line becomes 1,200.00, the subtotal 4,700.00 and the total 5,405.00. The client sees the reason in a single row.
What to write in the notes
- Included: three concepts, two revision rounds, final files as PNG, SVG and PDF, and a black-and-white version.
- Not included: a full brand guideline, print design, and changing the concept after one has been chosen.
- What a round means: one consolidated set of feedback, not one message per change.
- Extra rounds at 400 SAR each, added to the invoice.
The tool prints these notes under the totals, headed ‘Notes and terms’, keeps your line breaks, and allows up to 1000 characters. The wording itself is your agreement with the client; the tool gives no legal advice and does not make the quote binding.
Tips from real projects
- Put the number of concepts and rounds in the line description as well as the notes; the table is the first thing the client reads.
- For a full identity project, make each element its own line: the logo, business cards, social media templates. It is easier for the client to drop what they do not want than to haggle over one figure.
- On delivery, create the invoice in the Basic invoice generator with the number of rounds actually used, not the number the quote expected.
Start in the Quotation generator, and press ‘Load example’ if you want to see how notes look in the file before writing your own.
Common questions
Should I remove the extra-rounds line if the client has not asked for any?
You can, and just state the per-round price in the notes so it is not added to the total.
Can I put images of the concepts inside the quote?
No, the tool does not add images. Send the concepts as a separate file.
How do I charge a small change that is not worth a full round?
Give it its own line with a lower price and a clear description, or say in the notes that such changes are billed by the hour.
