My bank statement PDF asks for a password when I open it. How can I extract one month's page from it?
The split tool will not open the file while it is password-protected: it refuses encrypted files and never tries to get around their protection. Open the statement with its password in your PDF reader, save an unprotected copy if you are permitted to, and extract the month's page from that copy.
Why the tool refuses the file
Many banks email statements as a password-encrypted PDF, often using part of your ID number or date of birth. Encryption means the page content itself cannot be read without the password. The split tool runs in your browser and is built to reject such files with a clear message. It does not ask for the password and does not try to break the protection. That is deliberate: it never bypasses protection on any file.
The right way, step by step
- Open the statement in a PDF reader on your computer or phone and enter the password as usual.
- If it is your account and you are allowed to, save an unprotected copy: print and choose Save as PDF. Some readers also let you save a copy without a password from their security settings.
- Open that new copy in Split PDF. This time it should open and show its page count.
- Choose “Extract to one PDF” and type the month's page, or its range if the month spans two pages, such as 5-6.
- Press “Split and download”, then delete the full unprotected copy if you no longer need it.
Think before you save a copy without protection
- The password protects your financial data. Anyone with access to your device can open the unprotected copy, so do not leave it in Downloads or drop it into a group chat.
- Some files block printing or copying through their owner's settings. If your reader refuses, that is the issuer's choice; ask the bank for the page you need or a statement for a shorter period.
- If whoever asked for the statement insists on the original file issued by the bank, an extracted page will not do, because it is a new file without any digital signature or properties of the original.
Why one page beats the whole statement
When a landlord or supplier asks for proof of a specific payment, they need the month that shows the transfer, not a year of your transactions. Sending only that page limits how much of your information you expose. And because the tool builds a new file holding only the chosen pages, the other pages are simply not inside it.
Common questions
Can the tool open the file if I give it the password?
No, there is no password field. Open the file in a PDF reader and save an unprotected copy first.
Is my statement sent to a server?
No. Splitting happens inside your browser on your device.
