If I extract one page from a confidential report and send it, can the recipient see the rest of the pages?
No. The split tool builds a brand-new PDF holding only the pages you typed, so the other pages are not inside it at all, and the original's document metadata, such as its title and author, is not carried over. Everything visible on the chosen page still goes with it, so review that page before you send it.
Why the other pages are not in the file
People sometimes worry that pages they left out stay hidden inside the file and can be recovered. The worry is reasonable: some editors save changes on top of the old file, so the original lingers inside. The split tool does not work that way. It creates a new, empty document, copies in only the pages you picked, and saves it. The other pages never reach the output, and the recipient cannot view them.
One technical caveat is worth knowing. Resources the page shares with others, such as fonts, and sometimes images the file defines once for several pages, are copied along with it. They do not appear as pages, but someone with specialist PDF tools could in theory pull them out. If the material is highly sensitive, send the page as a picture made with PDF to images, since an image carries only what is visible.
report.pdf, 20 pages, and you only need the sales table on page 5.
In “Extract to one PDF” you type 5 and get report-pages-5.pdf, one page long.
What travels with the page, and what to check
- Every visible word, number and image on the page, including small footnotes, account numbers and names in the header.
- Comments, highlights and notes added to the page, because they are copied with it. If you wrote an internal note on it, remove it in the original or choose a different page.
- Text hidden behind a black box drawn over it. Covering text with a black shape in an ordinary editor does not delete the text underneath, and it may still be copied or searched. Extraction does not change that; the page is copied as it is.
- Links on the page, which may point to a shared folder or an internal page you would rather not reveal.
The steps, with a safe review
- Open Split PDF and choose the report.
- Choose “Extract to one PDF” and type the page or pages you want to send.
- Download the file, open it in a PDF reader and confirm the page count is what you expected.
- Try selecting the text on the page and pasting it into a note. If words appear that you could not see, the page carries hidden content.
- Send the file only after this check.
What if you are sending all but a few pages?
If you want to send 18 of 20 pages and hold back two, it is easier to remove those two with Delete PDF pages than to type everything you keep. Same principle: you choose what does not reach the recipient, and the result does not contain those pages.
Common questions
Will the recipient see the original file name?
The output name starts with the original's, such as report-pages-5.pdf. If the original name gives something away, rename the file before sending.
Does the confidential report pass through a server?
No. Extraction happens inside your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
