Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter hip and height.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
BAI (body fat %) = hip circumference (cm) ÷ height (m)^1.5 − 18.
Example
Inputs: Hip = 100 cm, Height = 175 cm. Result: Estimated body fat (BAI): 25.2%; Height to the power 1.5: 2.315 m^1.5.
Limits and caveats
- It was developed on Mexican American and African American adults and may be less accurate for others.
- Later studies found it overestimates fat in lean people and underestimates it in people with high body fat.
Questions about this tool
How do I measure my hips?
Wrap the tape around the widest part of your buttocks while standing with your feet together.
Why does BAI not need weight?
It was designed for settings without a scale, so it uses only hips and height.
Should I trust it over the Navy method?
The US Navy method held up better in most comparisons; BAI works as a quick second estimate.
