How to use it

  1. Enter wall length, wall height, doors and windows area, brick length, brick height and brick width (wall thickness).
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Bricks per m² = 1,000,000 ÷ ((brick length + joint) × (brick height + joint)) in mm. Count = net area × bricks per m². Mortar = area × wall thickness × (1 − brick face ÷ cell face).

Example

Inputs: Wall length = 10 m, Wall height = 3 m, Doors and windows area = 0 m², Brick length = 215 mm, Brick height = 65 mm. Result: Bricks to buy (with waste): 1,867 pcs; Net bricks: 1,777.8 pcs; Bricks per m²: 59.26.

Limits and caveats

  • Counts a single-leaf wall; double the result for a double-leaf wall.
  • The mortar volume is geometric and excludes frog filling and mixing loss.

Questions about this tool

How many bricks per square metre?

For a 215 × 65 mm brick with a 10 mm joint, about 59.3 bricks per m² in a single-leaf wall.

Should I subtract doors and windows?

Yes, enter their total area. A 0.9 × 2.1 m door removes 1.89 m².

What waste allowance suits bricks?

Usually 5% to 10% for breakage in transport and cuts at corners and openings.
