How to use it
- Enter area length, area width, tile length, tile width, tiles per box and waste allowance.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Tiles = (length × width) ÷ (tile length × tile width in metres) × (1 + waste ÷ 100), rounded up. Boxes = tiles ÷ tiles per box, rounded up.
Example
Inputs: Area length = 5 m, Area width = 4 m, Tile length = 60 cm, Tile width = 60 cm, Tiles per box = 4. Result: Tiles to buy (with waste): 62 pcs; Boxes: 16; Area to tile: 20 m².
Limits and caveats
- Grout joints are not deducted, so wide joints need slightly fewer tiles.
- Diagonal or herringbone layouts need 15% waste or more.
Questions about this tool
How many 60 × 60 tiles per square metre?
Each tile covers 0.36 m², so 1 m² takes 2.78 tiles before waste.
What waste allowance for tiles?
About 10% for a straight lay, 15% for diagonal, and more for rooms with many corners.
Why keep spare boxes?
Later batches can differ slightly in shade, so spare tiles from the same batch help with repairs.
