How to use it

  1. Enter column shape, diameter or side, height, number of columns and waste allowance.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Round column: π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × height. Square column: side² × height. Then × count × (1 + waste ÷ 100).

Example

Inputs: Column shape = Round, Diameter or side = 30 cm, Height = 3 m, Number of columns = 4, Waste allowance = 5 %. Result: Volume to order (with waste): 0.891 m³; Volume of one column: 0.2121 m³; Net volume, all columns: 0.848 m³.

Limits and caveats

  • Does not subtract the rebar volume, which is usually small next to the concrete.
  • For rectangular columns use the general concrete calculator with length and width.

Questions about this tool

How much concrete for a 30 cm round column 3 m tall?

π × 0.15² × 3 = about 0.212 m³ per column before waste.

Should I enter the inner or outer diameter of a tube form?

Use the inner diameter, since that is the diameter of the concrete column you will get.

Why does a square column take more concrete than a round one of the same size?

A 30 cm square has 0.09 m² of section while a 30 cm circle has only 0.0707 m², about 21% less.
