How it is calculated

Total = count of each item × its typical caffeine per EFSA: espresso 60 ml = 80 mg, filter coffee 200 ml = 90 mg, black tea 220 ml = 50 mg, cola 355 ml = 40 mg, energy drink 250 ml = 80 mg, dark chocolate 50 g = 25 mg.

Example

Inputs: Espresso (60 ml) = 0, Filter coffee (200 ml) = 2, Black tea (220 ml) = 1, Cola (355 ml) = 0, Energy drink (250 ml) = 0. Result: Total caffeine: 230 mg; Share of daily level: 57.5%; Left before the level: 170 mg.

Limits and caveats

  • Caffeine values are typical figures; real content varies a lot by bean, brewing and cup size.
  • The 400 mg level is for healthy adults; people with heart problems, anxiety or on medicines should ask their doctor.
