Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter text, delimiter and trim spaces around each field.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Read character by character: a field starting with " runs to the closing ", "" inside it means one ", and the delimiter or a line break outside quotes ends the field. Each field goes on its own line.
Example
Inputs: Delimiter = Comma (,), Trim spaces around each field = no. Result: Result: Product Smith, John 5" screen 42; Fields: 4; Rows: 1.
Product,"Smith, John","5"" screen",42
Product Smith, John 5" screen 42
Limits and caveats
- A quoted field that contains a line break shows on two lines in the result.
- With several rows, all their fields are listed in order in one list.
Questions about this tool
Why not just split at every comma?
CSV allows commas inside a quoted value, and a plain split breaks it into two fields.
What does "" inside a field mean?
It is how CSV writes one literal double quote inside a quoted value.
Why do I get an error?
Usually an unclosed quote, or characters after a closing quote and before the delimiter.
