Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter text, delimiter, quote every field, trim spaces around each line and skip empty lines.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Each line is a field. A field containing the delimiter or " is wrapped in double quotes and every " inside is doubled to "", then fields are joined with the delimiter.
Example
Inputs: Delimiter = Comma (,), Quote every field = no, Trim spaces around each line = yes, Skip empty lines = yes. Result: Result: Product,"Smith, John","5"" screen",42; Fields: 4.
Product Smith, John 5" screen 42
Product,"Smith, John","5"" screen",42
Limits and caveats
- It produces a single row; every input line becomes one column.
- Some regional Excel setups expect a semicolon instead of a comma.
Questions about this tool
When are quotes added?
When a field contains the delimiter or a double quote, as RFC 4180 requires. You can also quote every field if a system asks for it.
How is a double quote written inside a field?
It is doubled, so 5" screen becomes "5"" screen".
Why does Excel show the row in one column?
Usually your regional settings use semicolons. Pick the semicolon delimiter and try again.
