Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter base a and exponent n.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
aⁿ multiplies a by itself n times for positive whole n, a⁻ⁿ = 1 / aⁿ, and a^(1/n) is the nth root. A negative base with a fractional exponent has no real value.
Example
Inputs: Base a = 2, Exponent n = 10. Result: Result: 1,024.
Limits and caveats
- 0 to the power 0 is taken as 1, the common convention.
- Precision is about 15 significant digits, so huge results are rounded.
Questions about this tool
What is any number to the power 0?
It is 1 for any non-zero base, for example 7⁰ = 1.
What does a negative exponent mean?
It is the reciprocal of the positive power: 5⁻² = 1/25 = 0.04.
Can I take a square root here?
Yes, use exponent 0.5. For example 9 to the power 0.5 is 3.
