How to use it

  1. Enter country and taxable supplies over 12 months.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Mandatory if supplies exceed the mandatory threshold, optional if they exceed the voluntary threshold but not the mandatory one, otherwise not required.

Example

Inputs: Country = Saudi Arabia (SAR 375,000), Taxable supplies over 12 months = 400,000 local currency. Result: Registration position: Registration is mandatory; Mandatory threshold: 375,000.00 SAR; Voluntary threshold: 187,500.00 SAR.

Limits and caveats

  • Thresholds come from ZATCA, the UAE Federal Tax Authority, Bahrain's National Bureau for Revenue and the Oman Tax Authority, and may change.
  • The test also covers expected supplies for the next 12 months, and in the UAE expenses can count toward voluntary registration; neither is modelled here.

Questions about this tool

What if my sales equal the threshold exactly?

The obligation starts when you exceed the threshold, so at exactly the threshold registration stays optional.

Do exempt sales count?

No. Taxable supplies count, including zero-rated ones, but exempt supplies do not.

Why register voluntarily?

Registration lets you reclaim VAT on purchases, but you must then charge VAT and file returns.
