Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter hexagon side, prism height and length unit.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Base area = 3√3/2 × a², volume = base area × h, total area = 2 × base area + 6ah.
Example
Inputs: Hexagon side = 2, Prism height = 10, Length unit = Centimeter (cm). Result: Volume: 103.923 cm³; Base area: 10.3923 cm²; Total surface area: 140.7846 cm².
Limits and caveats
- Regular hexagons only, with six equal sides.
- Results are in the cube or square of the unit you chose, so enter every dimension in that same unit.
Questions about this tool
How is the area of a regular hexagon found?
Area = 3√3/2 × side², about 2.598 × side². A hexagon with side 2 has area about 10.39.
I only know the distance across flats.
Divide it by √3 to get the side. Across flats of 34.64 means a side of about 20.
How does it differ from a hexagonal pyramid?
A hexagonal pyramid holds one third of the prism with the same base and height.
