How to use it
- Enter outer radius, inner radius, length and length unit.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Material volume = πh(R² − r²), inner capacity = πr²h, total area = 2πh(R + r) + 2π(R² − r²).
Example
Inputs: Outer radius = 5, Inner radius = 3, Length = 10, Length unit = Centimeter (cm). Result: Volume: 502.6548 cm³; Inner capacity: 282.7433 cm³; Total surface area: 603.1858 cm².
Limits and caveats
- For weight, multiply the material volume by the density of the metal or plastic, which varies by grade.
- Results are in the cube or square of the unit you chose, so enter every dimension in that same unit.
Questions about this tool
How is the pipe material volume found?
Subtract the inner void from the outer cylinder: πh(R² − r²).
I only have the outer diameter and wall thickness.
Outer radius = diameter / 2 and inner radius = outer radius − thickness.
How many liters does a pipe hold?
See "Inner capacity in liters". A pipe with a 5 cm inner radius and 2 m length holds about 15.7 liters.
