How to use it
- Enter carbohydrate on label, fiber, sugar alcohols, label type and sugar alcohol deduction.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
US label: net = total carbohydrate - fiber - sugar alcohols (all or half). EU label: carbohydrate already excludes fiber, so net = carbohydrate - sugar alcohols.
Example
Inputs: Carbohydrate on label = 30 g, Fiber = 8 g, Sugar alcohols = 6 g, Label type = US (carbs include fiber), Sugar alcohol deduction = Subtract all. Result: Net carbs: 16 g; Deducted: 14 g.
Limits and caveats
- Net carbs is not an official labelling term; the method is a common convention.
- Some sugar alcohols such as maltitol raise blood sugar more than erythritol, which is why some people subtract only half.
Questions about this tool
How do I tell the label type?
If fiber is listed under carbohydrate as part of it, it is a US label. If it has its own line after carbohydrate, it is usually EU style.
Do I always subtract fiber?
On a US label yes; on an EU label fiber is not counted in carbohydrate to begin with.
Do net carbs matter if I am not on keto?
They help people with diabetes or anyone tracking carbs, but for most people total calories and food quality matter more.
