Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter gpa scale, current cumulative gpa, hours counted so far, target cumulative gpa and next semester hours.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Required semester GPA = (target × (current hours + next hours) − current GPA × current hours) ÷ next hours.
Example
Inputs: GPA scale = Out of 5.0, Current cumulative GPA = 3.8, Hours counted so far = 60 hours, Target cumulative GPA = 4, Next semester hours = 15 hours. Result: Semester GPA needed: 4.8; Verdict: Reachable this semester; Highest cumulative possible after the term: 4.04.
Limits and caveats
- It assumes the next term adds new hours and does not handle a repeated course whose grade replaces the old one.
- A result can be possible on paper yet still require A+ in every course.
Questions about this tool
What does "not reachable in one semester" mean?
The semester GPA needed is above the top of the scale, so you need more than one term. Try the hours needed to raise GPA tool.
Why do I sometimes get a negative number?
A negative result, or one below the lowest grade point, means your GPA stays at or above the target whatever you score this term.
Do more hours help raise the GPA?
Yes, if you perform above your current GPA, since more hours give the semester more weight.
