- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Fasting days = 60 × days. Poor people = 60 × days. Cost = poor people × cost of feeding one. Each spoiled day is also made up.
Example
Inputs: Days requiring kaffarah = 1, Cost of feeding one poor person = 15. Result: Feeding cost if unable to fast: 900.00; Consecutive fasting days: 60; Poor people to feed: 60.
Limits and caveats
- Counts one kaffarah per day, as the majority hold; Hanafis require one for several days in the same Ramadan if none was paid in between.
- Kaffarah for deliberate eating or drinking is held by Hanafis and Malikis, not by Shafiis and Hanbalis.
Questions about this tool
Can I feed the poor if I am able to fast?
Not for the majority: the order is freeing a slave, then two consecutive months of fasting, then feeding sixty poor people.
What if the sequence breaks?
Breaking it without a valid excuse means starting the sixty again; illness or menstruation does not break it.
Does the wife also owe kaffarah?
If she consented, most schools say she owes her own; the Shafii view places one kaffarah on the husband.
