How to use it
- Enter rent received during the year, amount spent from it (upkeep, living), nisab basis, price of 1 g of 24k gold, price of 1 g of pure silver and zakat rate.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Saved = rent received - amount spent from it. If saved ≥ nisab and held a lunar year, zakat = saved × 2.5%.
Example
Inputs: Rent received during the year = 60,000, Amount spent from it (upkeep, living) = 20,000, Nisab basis = Gold (85 g), Price of 1 g of 24K gold = 400 per g, Price of 1 g of pure silver = 5 per g. Result: Zakat due: 1,000.00; Rent saved: 40,000.00; Nisab in money: 34,000.00.
Limits and caveats
- Follows the majority view that zakat is due on rent saved for a lunar year; some modern scholars say it is due on receipt.
- Property held for sale is trade goods and its value is zakated, which this tool does not cover.
Questions about this tool
Is zakat due on the rented house?
Scholars generally say no zakat on the value of a rented property; it is due on the rent if saved.
Do I add rent to my other savings?
Yes. Saved rent joins your other cash and all of it is zakated at the end of the year.
What about land kept for sale?
Land bought with the intention to sell is trade goods, so its market value is zakated each year.
