Rhombus area calculator
The diagonals of a rhombus cross at right angles and bisect each other, so their lengths give the area and every dimension.

How to use it
- Enter diagonal p, diagonal q and length unit.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Area = (p × q) ÷ 2, side = √((p ÷ 2)² + (q ÷ 2)²), perimeter = 4 × side and height = area ÷ side.
Example
Inputs: Diagonal p = 6, Diagonal q = 8, Length unit = Centimeters (cm). Result: Area: 24 cm²; Side: 5 cm; Perimeter: 20 cm.
Limits and caveats
- If you only know the side and height, area = side × height; this tool starts from the diagonals.
- The unit choice only labels the results.
Questions about this tool
What is the formula for the area of a rhombus?
Area equals half the product of the diagonals. Diagonals 6 and 8 give an area of 24.
How do I get the side from the diagonals?
The diagonals split the rhombus into 4 right triangles, so the side is the hypotenuse with legs equal to half of each diagonal.
When is a rhombus a square?
When the diagonals are equal; every angle is then 90°.
